Mazel Pernell
Travel Writer

After more years than I care to count, I retired from 9 - 5 work in 2005. Since that time I've combined my desire to see the world with my love of writing. I've always loved to travel and did so often before I retired. As of January 2012, I've visited six of the seven continents and more than 30 countries.
I live with my husband in Potomac, MD, a suburb northwest of Washington, DC. I love the outdoors regardless of the time of year. In the winter I look forward to skiing especially in Colorado and Utah and I play tennis year round. I thoroughly enjoy my work as a licensed Washington, DC Tour Guide.
I delight in meeting new people and learning about other countries and cultures. When I'm not traveling, I volunteer as an ESL tutor through the Literacy Council. I also learn about far off places from the men and women in the weekly English Conversation Group. The group has participants from all over the world who come together to practice their English speaking skills. I never fail to get itchy feet before the end of each weekly session.
My favorite place to visit? Wherever I'm going next whether it's to a local museum to see a new exhibit, across the pond to tour a centuries old castle on a hill or south to explore Inca ruins. I look forward to discovering the world near and far each time I walk out of my house.
I strive to embrace and live by my favorite quote by St. Augustine - "The world is a book and those who do not travel, read only a page."d
