TravelRest Inflatable Travel Pillow

Nearly all c-shaped or u-shaped travel pillows seem to make the same claim.  They’re ergonomically designed to minimize tension and strain on the neck and shoulders.  They prevent your head from swaying side to side.  They support your head and neck in an upright position.  They’re made with skin soft friendly material, inflate in an instant and take up almost no room in your bag.  That’s what they promise, but few of them deliver.

After several disappointing attempts, I simply gave up on travel pillows until I read about the TravelRest pillow.  The pillow’s designer took a whole new approach in designing it and came up with something that really delivers.  Instead of a c- or u- shape, the TravelRest looks more like a giant comma.

My biggest complaint with other travel pillows is that I don’t want the pillow to keep my head and neck in an upright position as they all promise.  I want a pillow that allows my head to lean a little forward and slightly to one side – a position that enables me to rest comfortably while sitting upright whether on an airplane, in a car or on a bus or train.  When properly inflated, the tapered ergonomics of the TravelRest pillow give me just the support at the angle I need to sleep.

I used the TravelRest pillow on a recent flight to Peru and loved it. Since my head and neck rested comfortably on the pillow, I avoided the head bobbing that can result in a sore neck at the end of the flight.  When I was seated next to the window, the upper part of the pillow easily conformed to the space between the window wall and the seatback to support my head and shoulder while the lower part molded to my torso. When I was in the middle seat, the pillow allowed me to cuddle into it and kept my head from landing on my seatmate’s shoulder.

I even took the TravelRest pillow along when I hiked the Inca Trail.  When I crawled into my sleeping bag after a long day of walking, the pillow provided all necessary support for my head and neck.

The pillow takes only a couple of puffs to inflate, rolls to the size of an ultra compact umbrella for easy storage and stays that way thanks to the handy snap to keep it rolled.  Thankfully, there is no pouch to keep track of.

The TravelRest pillow comes in red, blue or gray and cleans up nicely with mild soap and water.  It comes with a one year unconditional replacement for manufacturer defects.  At $26.95 it is a bit pricier than many of the traditional inflatable travel pillows.  But well worth it.
